How Are Conveyor Rollers Used

Conveyor rollers are a sequence of rollers used in automatic or semi-automatic foundries that require smooth conveyance to move objects from one place to another. They are the most important component of a conveyor system which helps in transporting bulky materials like scrap metals, powders, automotive components, furniture, heavy metal parts and more. This system is usually found in packaging, agricultural, electronics, food processing, aerospace, canning and automotive industries. 

There are different types of conveyor rollers involved in weight transportation. The load-bearing conveyor roller and return or lower conveyor roller are the most commonly used ones. While the load bearing types are used according to the weight that has to be carried, the others have pointed rings in the middle and the corners. These rollers are capable of automatic cleaning. Conveyor rollers are made of stainless steel, steel, PVC and aluminum. The metal rollers are rust resistant; this allows water to be sprayed on the materials they carry.

High speed rollers are both efficient and noiseless. These rollers are accurately created using conductive bushing, bearing caps and crimped edges. The parts used in these rollers prevent the materials from slipping off the tube. They reduce the wear and tear of the whole system.

Grooved rollers are an improvised form of standard rollers. They are used in round belt driven conveyors and within the systems that use power driven rollers. They are made of galvanized steel and are crimped at the edges. They are easy to install and use and can spot grooves within the rollers. They contain corrosion resistant tubes that help the rollers move quickly and transport high loads. 

Gravity rollers are less expensive and a more flexible option for places where noise is not a concern. They fit into any conveyor system that requires low speed. Corrosion resistant and chain driven rollers are other conveyor rollers that can handle heavy loads. Both are made of metal and are easy to install and use. They are usually used in sectors where conveyors that move at high speeds and can carry heavy loads are required.

Gravity Conveyor Systems

Gravity roller conveyors are used to transport materials in warehouses, shipping departments and other industries where materials have to be transported with a minimum amount of pitch. Due to their ease in handling, low cost and simplicity, they are widely used in unit load handling systems. The gravity roller conveyors are used as push-lines and graded lines using the force of gravity. They are widely used to shift heavy loads that require quick shipment.

Types of Gravity Tracks

Gravity tracks can be classified into two types – wheels and rollers. While metal wheels are suitable for carrying lightweight products with smooth-bottomed surfaces, rollers can carry objects with uneven and round surfaces. These systems are useful in order picking. Many facilities wish to have their order pickers positioned along gravity conveyors. This makes work easier for the order pickers. This works well for two reasons. First, the open carton moves to the workstation so the items can be loaded by the workers in a sequence. Second, the workers must be at the workstation accumulating the orders as the material arrives for order picking.
